Service Interruption Update for Caltzontzin District

February 05, 2019

On January 14, 2019, the main line on the Caltzontzin and Acambaro Districts became blocked due to civil protests occurring on or near the Kansas City Southern de Mexico’s (KCSM) track, impeding our ability to continue without risk to the protestors.  This mainline interruption impacted service to and from both the Port of Lazaro Cardenas and Toluca, resulting in KCSM issuing a Force Majeure and document limitations (embargos).

On February 4, 2019, the protestors cleared the tracks on the Acambaro District allowing the embargo and Force Majeure to be lifted for that line.  We remain cautiously optimistic that the mainline will remain clear, but, in matters of civil protests, risk remains as they are not in our control. We will be monitoring the situation closely and will communicate should the status change.

Unfortunately, the Caltzontzin district / access to Lazaro Cardenas remains blocked, and service to this area still is under an embargo and Force Majeure.   We anxiously await the protestors to clear that part of the network.  We are poised and ready to inspect the tracks once cleared to resume traffic to/from the Lazaro Cardenas area.  As soon as we have the all clear to resume service, we will notify you. Until this time, please note that we are still in stand-by mode and have nothing new to report.

Please do not hesitate to contact our KCSR Customer Solutions or KCSM Customer Solutions team with any questions you may have.

As always, we thank you for your understanding and patience.
