Southbound and Northbound Cross-border Embargoes lifted Laredo/Houston

September 04, 2017

Hurricane Harvey hit about 10 days ago. This status update contains some encouraging news. We are pleased to announce that the Rosenberg subdivision opened up late last night permitting cross-border traffic to and from Houston (Kendleton). However, due to the continued saturated conditions of the land and continued repair work, strict speed limits of 10mph are in effect. Delays should be expected on all routes for some time while we reduce backlog and respect imposed speed restrictions given the conditions and repair work.

The Beaumont subdivision remains closed at this time but conditions are improving.  The Sabine River’s water level has dropped and highways and roadways are now open making things more accessible.  Assessment of the subdivision is in full swing and upon completion, an estimate for a reopen date will be provided.

Force Majeure remains in effect. South and Northbound cross-border embargoes for locations of Houston, Corpus Christi, Victoria, Rosenberg to and from Laredo have been lifted. Due to the inability to pass through the Beaumont Sub at this time, embargoes for traffic through the Beaumont Sub remain in effect until further notice.

We continue to work closely with our rail partners to provide detours when and if available. Due to the widespread nature of this hurricane, all rail carriers in this region have been impacted.  We remain committed to resuming service via detours or normal operations as soon as possible.

The Kansas City Southern Charitable Fund announced it will donate $50,000 to the American Red Cross relief efforts and will match KCS employee donations up to $25,000. For those interested in helping out Hurricane Harvey victims, you can make a donation by TEXTING "Harvey" to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the Red Cross.

We appreciate your patience and understanding on the service interruptions and the resultant Force Majeure caused by Hurricane Harvey. We will continue to update you as the status changes.
