Carload Business Unit
KCSR and KCSM are providing the most efficient route for carload traffic from the heartland of the U.S. to the heartland of Mexico. As such, the carload business unit represents over half of the company's revenues divided proportionately between chemicals and forest products.
In addition to its direct north south route, KCSR is uniquely positioned to handle carload traffic with more paper mills on the U.S. line than any other U.S. railroad. KCSR and KCSM are moving chemical and petroleum products to and from the major chemical and petroleum producing regions to virtually any industry in any city in North America. And a number of premiere steel plants are located on the line, handling steel products and finished goods. In fact, in 2007, SeverCorr will begin production of steel coils in Columbus, Mississippi.
