In December, KCS received a certificate of Environmental Quality Level 1 from attorney Francisco Moreno of PROFEPA, Mexico’s environmental protection agency. The certificate followed an extensive agency audit of KCS’ rail machinery, signals, bridges, inventory, general services, maintenance of way, safety and hygiene, procurement and environmental procedures in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
The audit examined the use and consumption of drinking water, devices and procedures for the prevention of contamination of the ground, non-hazardous solid waste management, hazardous waste management and special handling, control of noise emissions, exploitation of natural resources, security and management of equipment for personal protection, management of environmental risk and management systems.
The certificate is valid for two years and serves as a foundation for the development of additional environmental protection procedures to benefit the company and greater community.
