In the U.S., KCS is Responsible Care® Management System (RCMS) certified for having a formal Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Management System. RCMS provides a structured framework for continual improvement, identifying risks and assessing needs, setting specific performance goals and sharing information with employees, contractors and the public. It includes requirements for policy and leadership; planning; implementation; operation and accountability; performance measurement and quantitative action plan; and management system review.
RCMS was adopted by the American Chemistry Council in 2002 for implementing Responsible Care® in the U.S. In the U.S., KCS has been a Responsible Care® partner company since 1999. KCS was named Responsible Care® partner of the year in April 2012.
Also in the U.S., KCS has been consistently recognized for its employee safety record by the E.H. Harriman Memorial Awards Institute with a Gold Award in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011; Bronze Award in 2003 and 2004; and a Silver Award in 2005.
While RCMS and the Harriman awards are not applicable in Mexico, health, safety, security and environmental management remains a priority and similar procedures are followed.
