Now 14 days in to its 24-day run, the 2015 KCS Holiday Express has seen 44,971 visitors through the train. After stops in Louisiana and Texas last week, the train moved on to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas. The train will spend its final week in Missouri and Illinois. The complete schedule and more information can be found on the KCS website. Employees and friends are invited to follow KCS Holiday Express on Facebook, Instagram or by downloading the app.
One of the most important reasons KCS runs the Holiday Express is for the relationships we are able to build and strengthen in the community with local officials, law enforcement, businesses, and the community at large. A couple of examples:
After stops in his area, Wharton County Judge Phillip Spenrath sent KCS a note saying, “The KCS Holiday Express continues to be an extraordinary Christmas happening in our county. Over 3,700 visited the train in El Campo this past Monday night. The wait in line took approximately two hours and everyone was thrilled they took the time. Thank you! KCS continues to be an outstanding partner in Wharton County.”
Another citizen sent an email to KCS that said, “Our grandson is very young, but he was fascinated with the decorations and the miniature trains on the Holiday Express. I did not get Santa's name, but he told me he is retired from your railroad and lives in Kansas City. He was so sweet and patient with my grandson who had never seen a live Santa...much less sat on his lap. He was so kind and patient with all the children. He looked and acted the part as if he were really Santa. I thanked him for volunteering, but I want you and your company to know how much I and my family appreciate your generous Christmas gift of the train and Santa. I pray that God blesses Santa, every volunteer and employee on the train, and everyone affiliated with Kansas City Southern...including you. Thank you very much.”
Anyone interested in purchasing a 2015 KCS Holiday Express t-shirt can find them on KCS’ online Company Store under Men’s or Women’s Apparel or by clicking here. Please note minimum order requirement.
Unfortunately, some of the most dedicated Holiday Express volunteers have gotten sick part way through the trip and had to rest, so additional volunteers are needed more than ever to serve as elves to assist with crowd control, welcome visitors to the train, stuff gift bags for children and see that guests exit the train safely. To volunteer, please contact head elf Grant Elliott by email or phone at 816-529-2957.
