January 08, 2016

On December 28, Landon Rowland, former chairman of the Kansas City Southern Industries (KCSI) board of directors, passed away in Kansas City, Mo.  Mr. Rowland served on the board from 1983 to 2004 and was chairman from 1997 to 2000.  He also served as CEO from 1987 to 2000, leading the company through the successful acquisition of the concession to run the privatized Mexican railroad in 1997 today known as KCSM.  In 2000, he engineered KCSI’s move from a diversified holding company to one focused on rail transportation by spinning off the holding company’s financial services businesses which led to the company later being renamed simply Kansas City Southern (KCS).  More details about his life, legacy and memorial services are available here.
