Service Interruption due to protestors - March, 2020

March 12, 2020

As you are likely aware from the media, the state of Michoacan is experiencing protests by teachers blocking both rail and highways. These protests are impacting KCSM on the mainline in the Caltzontzin District between Morelia and Nueva Italia making it impossible to continue without risk to protestors.

This mainline interruption has impacted service to and from the Port of Lazaro Cardenas and has the potential to impact traffic throughout the KCSM network.

KCS remains committed to being an advocate on the part of our customers. Although the protests are unrelated to our company, we are committed to working relentlessly to ensure your shipments resume as quickly and safely as possible. We will explore efforts that include but are not limited to these endeavors:

  • Initiating operational actions, such as arranging detours where available.
  • Participating in dialogue with all levels of state and federal governments to facilitate a resolution as soon as possible.
  • Initiating the legal actions permitted by law.

Finding a fast yet sustainable solution to this interruption is our priority and you have our commitment we will explore all avenues on your behalf. You have our commitment to keep you posted as the status changes.

We appreciate your patience and understanding on this service interruption and the resulting delays.

The KCSM Customer Solutions team will keep you informed as our operations resume. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact us and we will be glad to assist you.
