KCSR Fuel Surcharges
The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) assesses fuel charges based on the distance your freight shipment moves or a percentage of the rate. The most recent surcharge information is below.
The following information includes:
- U.S. - Fuel Surcharge based on mileage is calculated by multiplying the distance by an amount per mile as shown in Item 240 of KCS Rules Publication 9012-Series based on the monthly average price for Highway Diesel Fuel (HDF).
- U.S. - Fuel Surcharge based on a percentage of rate is calculated by multiplying the linehaul freight charges by a percentage as shown in Item 240 of KCS Rules Publication 9011-Series based on the average price per barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil.
- U.S. Intermodal - This fuel surcharge is based on a percent of linehaul freight charge calculated by the amount as show in Item 245 of KCS Rules Publication 9011-Series based on the average price for On-Highway Diesel (OHD).

Kansas City Southern de Mexico (KCSM) assesses fuel charges based on the distance your freight shipment moves. The most recent information is below.
- Mexico - Reduction on Rate Discount (RDD) on the service rate based on distance is calculated by multiplying the route distance by an amount per mile as shown in the Freight Railroad Transportation Public Service Agreement (KCSM Rules Publication) based on the public fuel price for PEMEX TAR Irapuato, before VAT.
- Mexico - Fuel Surcharge based on Percent of Revenue is calculated by multiplying a determined percentage based on the PEMEX TAR Irapuato, before VAT and associated foreign exchange rates derived from the Bank of Mexico
