A letter from Kansas City Southern on the Coronavirus

March 06, 2020

To our customers and partners,

As the news of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to dominate, I wanted to take a moment to share with you KCS’ plans and actions related to this.

At KCS, safety is an obligation, not an option. The health and safety of our employees, customers (and their shipments) and the communities we serve are our top priority. As such, we continue to track the spread of the virus so that we can stay on top of any potential impacts to our stakeholders and to our business.

We have business continuity and crisis communication plans and will initiate plan protocols as appropriate in order to, among other things:

1)    protect our workers and minimize risk to them
2)    maintain business operations/ business continuity
3)    minimize any impacts within our supply chain

We remain committed and focused on minimizing the impact this will have on our business as well as to our customers’ transportation supply chain. As such, there are plans in place allowing business to continue as close to normal operations as possible.

In order to help limit the spread of this virus, we are postponing all non-essential business travel for our employees, and have asked each of them to consider other alternatives such as videoconferences as better ways to meet with our stakeholders. I’d also like to thank you in advance for your understanding and accommodating these changes until such time as we know more about how to address this situation and stop the spread of this virus.

We will continue to monitor key sources such as the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization for updates as well as key industry sources to realign our operations to meet the demands of our customers and the financial markets.

Thank you for your continued support and confidence and may you all remain healthy.

Sincerely,

Michael-J-Naatz BLACK
