Communication from Mike Naatz, CMO, on the CP - KCS combination

March 17, 2023

Dear Kansas City Southern customers,

I am pleased to share with you that on March 15, 2023, the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB) approved Canadian Pacific’s (CP) application to combine with Kansas City Southern (KCS), completing the regulatory process and clearing the way for the creation of the new CPKC.

We are extremely excited about bringing these two great railroads together to form the first single-line network linking Canada, the United States and Mexico, injecting meaningful competition into the North American rail network. The STB decision will take effect on April 14, 2023, at which time, CP will officially take control of KCS. We look forward to further updating you as we approach that date.

Until then, CP and KCS will continue to operate as separate companies as they have throughout this process. The respective CP and KCS teams will continue to serve you much as they do today, maintaining our focus on the continued safe and efficient operation of these railroads in service of you, our valued customers.

From the day we first shared with you news of this combination, we have been very clear that this merger is about growth. We know that our ability to grow starts with our service. We are very excited to demonstrate our enhanced service offerings with existing CP and KCS customers once combined, and are eager for the opportunity to earn more of your business.

Understandably, some of you may have questions for us.  In an effort to continually serve our customers, we have created a general email address (CPKC_Integration_Inquiry@kcsouthern.com) to answer inquiries you may have.  In addition, we have developed a list of frequently asked questions to proactively answer any anticipated questions and we will continue to update the FAQs so that you will have the most complete and current information.  And, as always, please contact your account manager with any questions.

We will use existing communication channels to share updates and information as we carefully and thoughtfully integrate our railroads. We also invite you to read this week’s news release about the combination being approved.

Thank you for being a loyal customer and we look forward to serving you as CPKC in the future.
