Digital Fiscal Document (CFDI) changes in Mexico #3 - coming soon

May 20, 2022

On February 21st, 2022, we shared that the Mexican Tax Authority (SAT) delayed the implementation date for the CFDI program impacting all invoicing and other fiscal related business documents until July 1, 2022, and KCS was assessing the impact of the new requirements and would communicate once next steps had been defined. As a reminder, these changes will be applicable to all Mexico businesses as well as all shippers and partners who have a Mexico origin or destination. The latest information from the SAT can be found here.

Since this date, KCS has been working on building functionality to capture the required CFDI information. This functionality will be ready the week of May 23rd for input and/or verification of content. In order for KCS to be prepared to meet the SAT date of July 1, 2022, all Mexico-based and non-Mexico-based companies must have the info updated in our system by June 17th. Mexico-based companies will be asked to upload their Constancia de Situación Fiscal, as well. Failure to enter the required data by this due date could result in the inability for customers to create waybills/ship freight within Mexico.

A more detailed communication will be coming out in a week or so and will be sent to the billing and accounts payable contacts we have for your companies.

In order to prepare for this short window to upload the required CFDI data, we recommend for those who ship in Mexico:

  • become familiar with the required changes related to the CFDI
  • make the appropriate adjustments to your systems to be fully compliant by the July 1st, 2022 deadline
  • coordinate with your billing and accounts payable of the pending request (including have hand your Constancia de Situación Fiscal)

We recognize there are many large-scale changes occurring in Mexico directly impacting our customers and the way we’ve conducted business through the years. KCS is committed to staying tightly aligned on the changes occurring in Mexico and communicating them to you as we are made aware.

Should you have any questions on this mandate, please don’t hesitate to contact our Credit and Collections department who will be happy to answer your CFDI specific questions.

Thank you for being a loyal Kansas City Southern customer and we look forward to continuing to serve you.
