Update on U.S. Labor Negotiations – Extension of cooling off period

November 09, 2022

As you are aware, the National Carriers' Conference Committee, representing numerous major U.S. freight railroads including KCS in national bargaining, has been negotiating for many months toward new national contracts with the dozen unions representing the railroads' unionized workforces.   Tentative agreements were reached with all labor unions back in September.  KCS applauds the efforts of all those who assisted in reaching the tentative agreements.

To date, seven of the 12 unions have reached final, confirmed agreements, leaving 3 tentative agreements pending ratification and 2 status quo/not ratified.  The “cooling off period” for those not yet ratified, originally set to expire on November 19th, has been extended until at least December 4th, to allow for continued negotiations.

We invite you to stay up to date on the status of the negotiations by visiting the National Railway Labor Conference (NRLC) website.

Our company has always fully supported fair compensation and benefits for our employees, as reflected by the fact that workers in the rail industry have been and continue to be among the highest compensated workers in the U.S.

At KCS, we remain fully committed to keeping it business-as-usual and service uninterrupted on both our U.S. and Mexico networks.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time, and we look forward to continuing to serve you in the future.
